If you’ve been to a Peak workout you know we emphasize touches. This is intentional, and sharing energy with teammates is crucial for great teams and team leaders. High fives, fist pounds, shoulder bumps, all of these offer a connection and a boost of energy, and they enhance our teams. Leaders feel responsible for their team’s energy level and know when a teammate needs a touch to respond to adversity or reset their focus.
Steve Nash, outstanding point guard and former NBA MVP, led the league in two categories: assists and touches. Yes, the NBA tracks touches. And Nash led this stat because he knew the importance of getting his teammates energized, keeping them focused, and building team camaraderie. Nash was a master of building connection and trust with his teammates. Find a way to lead your team in touches. (Think of emotional touches as well as physical touches, as many environments outside of sports, such as the office or classroom, don’t lend as well to shoulder bumps). A shout out on social media, a text with a motivational quote, a compliment, etc. Be consistent with touches to your teammates and watch the trust and cooperation increase. #getbetter |
