Feedback comes in a variety of forms. But worst of all, sometimes it doesn’t come or we don’t fully get the message we need. Make sure you are looking at feedback with the right attitude and through the right lens!
Feedback from failure: when we come up short, we don’t need to get down, we need to find the lesson we are meant to learn. No one successful has had an easy and fail-free life! They have been through hard times, people telling them “no”, and they have seen failure as feedback to grit through adversity and grow stronger.
Feedback from losing: Every loss is a lesson. If you don’t learn from losing, then the loss was a waste! Think UVA basketball in 2018 NCAA tournament vs UMBC…they return the next year as champs.
Feedback from mistakes: this is essentially what experience gives you. You have learned from your mistakes, and you are better for it. “That which hurts, instructs.”
Feedback from leaders/coaches: trust those around you who want to help you to give you feedback on how you are showing up. Ask for it! Seek the good and the bad, and use it to grow. Make sure you have leaders you can trust, and then put their feedback to work for you!
“If you learn to use it right, the adversity, it will buy you a ticket to a place you could not have gone any other way.”

No matter how far along in your basketball career you are, think of these points as you head into your basketball season…
