Last summer I spent four weeks working for Point Guard College, a basketball camp designed to teach kids how to think the game and immerse in the game for five days. I wanted to get involved with PGC because I knew I had a lot to give to and a lot to learn from their curriculum and culture, and I had waited too long to get involved again.
I say again because I attended PGC as a college athlete while playing at the University of North Carolina. Coach Sylvia Hatchell sent four of us one summer, as she did many summers for her players. The experience was a great one, and not only did it add layers to my understanding of basketball, but it taught me a whole new perspective of the game and a greater understanding of the role of leaders on a team. We had on-court sessions, film sessions, a notebook full of note-taking, and great skill instruction from passionate coaches. (One of the best examples of how great PGC is to me is how many great coaches trust and promote their teaching!!) Each week with PGC, it literally felt like I disappeared from the real world and experienced the ultimate basketball excursion. The opportunity for young players (those who truly love basketball) to experience this is invaluable and can make a huge impact on both their skill level and their commitment to the game afterwards. PGC makes you different. It’s hard to go into too much detail about why this is the case, but the expectation that is set for players from their culture and how it is built quickly in just the first day or two is truly remarkable. Self-leadership and energy are immediately required, and anything less is uncomfortable. Their curriculum equips any athlete with skill that immediately makes them a more effective player. See more about Point Guard College here. I will have more information next week as well. #getbetter Comments are closed.
