Basketball workouts/practice should be hard work, but it should also be fun. In order to be fun, energy is required! Energy also helps us get more done and get it done at a higher level.
I heard this summed up well from another coach that there are 3 P’s of a workout: Passion, Purpose, and Play. Passion is a must, and includes bringing energy and love for the game! Purpose means simply we are working on skills for specific reasons, and to translate to live play. Without purpose, what are we accomplishing and why? The third “P”, play, is both having fun and competing. Workouts should be full of games that teach us live situations and making reads, and should be full of fun and energy in a gym with everyone getting better.
It is work when you walk in the gym, but it should also be full of purposeful improvement at an extremely high level of passion, energy, and fun. Do your part to make your workouts have all three of these components!!
